This last week we started our new project in Rome. It is a group project that focuses on researching the entire Tiber river that runs through Rome and the bridges that are part of it. The project should be interesting and I'm looking forward to working with my group. On Saturday five of us made our way to Orvieto for a day trip. This is a small town located about an hour north of Rome by train. The place was amazing! Once you arrived to the town you had to take a cable car that brought you to the top of this remote area that sat on a cliff. The town is known for their great wine, caves, churches, and spectacular views. Everywhere in the town their was great scenery and shopping. One tour we went on was a tour of the caves. Under this entire town there were over 1200 caves that use to house olives, pigeons coops for eating, and wine storage. Another place we visited was the Basilica which was extremely intricate. The church was a gothic styled church covered in mosaics from the top to the bottom. Even with the outside as detailed as it was the inside was simple. It stood about four stories high and was beautiful. One last place we visited was the well the town well that was large enough to walk down to with donkeys that would then carry the water up. It was over 230 feet deep and had a double helix staircase that led you to the water. All three of these places were amazing and great experiences to think about the people who inhabited them thousands of years ago. We also spent the rest of our time having some wild bore, their popular wine, and trying some pigeon!
