The last couple days have been pretty calm but very entertaining still. This country has yet to seize to amaze me. Every corner I take I find something new and just as amazing as the previous. This week for our history class we toured the Capitoline hill located next to what used to be the Roman Forum. This area was amazing. It consisted of the old home for Pope Paul. This was also the location for many government officials of Italy to stay and manage government issues. The Pope had a church built and also hired Michelangelo to design the piazza for the Capitoline hill to give a more pleasing entrance for visiting government officials. This Piazza was beautiful and was a great space to be in. The surrounding buildings were identical and had great symmetry which made the space so nice to be in. Another place we visited Friday was Tivoli and Hadrian’s Palace. These two places were located north of Rome about an hour. This was part of our drawing classes field trip. Tivoli was a good change of pace from the typical buildings we have been seeing. It is a large home filled with gardens and fountains surrounding it. The landscaping was simply beautiful. Again, It was hard to describe but it was a maze of bushes and shrubs that led you to amazing spaces with pools and fountains. Hopefully the pictures can help describe it better. Finally we went to Hadrian’s palace, which was a large area that served as the living quarters for Emperor Hadrian. This living quarter consisted of multiple pools, homes, buildings, and many other spaces. It covered about 50 acres of land! Short blog but I hope you all enjoy!
